最上級 — 一番〜
3つ以上のものの中で「一番〜だ」と最も程度が高いことを表すのが 最上級 です。形容詞・副詞の語尾に -est をつけるか、前に most を置きます。
基本ルール
最上級の作り方は比較級と同じパターン：① 短い語は -est（tall → tallest, fast → fastest）② 長い語は most（beautiful → most beautiful）③ 不規則変化（good → best, bad → worst, many/much → most, little → least）。
形容詞の最上級の前には必ず the がつきます（the tallest, the most beautiful）。副詞の場合は the が省略されることもありますが、中学レベルでは the をつけて統一しても問題ありません。
「〜の中で」を表すには in（場所・集団）と of（複数の中で）を使い分け：in his class / in Japan、of the three / of all the students。
Tom is the tallest in his class.（トムはクラスで一番背が高い）
This is the most beautiful picture in the museum.（これは美術館で一番美しい絵だ）
She runs (the) fastest of the three.（彼女は3人の中で一番速く走る）
Mt. Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan.（富士山は日本で一番高い山）
注意点
① 形容詞の最上級には必ず the。「She is tallest in her class.」は誤り。「the tallest」。
② in と of の使い分け：単数の場所・集団 → in（in Japan / in his class / in the world）。複数の対象 → of（of the three / of all my friends / of the five girls）。
③ 最上級を強める：by far / much + 最上級（断然〜）。「This is by far the best book.（これは断然最高の本だ）」。
④ 比較級を使って最上級と同じ意味にできる：「No other student in the class is taller than Tom. = Tom is the tallest student in the class.」←書きかえ問題で頻出。
⑤ one of the + 最上級 + 複数名詞：「one of the best players（最高の選手の一人）」のように、複数名詞を使う。
- 短い語：-est、長い語：most
- 不規則：good→best, bad→worst
- 形容詞の最上級には the が必須
- 場所・集団は in、複数の中では of
- one of the + 最上級 + 複数名詞
