関係副詞 where / when / why / how
関係副詞は「前置詞＋関係代名詞」と同じ働きをします。場所・時・理由・方法の4種類を整理しましょう。
基本ルール
where：場所先行詞のあと。in/at/on which と言い換え可。「This is the town where I was born.」= 「...the town in which I was born.」
when：時の先行詞のあと。「I remember the day when we first met.」
why：reason が先行詞。「This is the reason why he was late.」先行詞か why のどちらか省略可。
how：先行詞は the way。the way と how は同時に使わない。「That is how he solved the problem.」← × the way how
📘 例文
The hotel where we stayed was very comfortable.（泊まったホテルはとても快適だった）
There was a time when smartphones didn't exist.（スマホがなかった時代があった）
That is how she became a famous scientist.（こうして彼女は有名な科学者になった）

注意点
① where の先行詞：場所名詞だけでなく状況を表す名詞にも使える。「a situation where everyone agrees」
② 関係副詞の省略：where/when/why/how はすべて省略可能（口語的）。
③ 前置詞 + which への書き換え：where = in/at which、when = on/in/at which、why = for which
④ how の注意：the way how は誤り。the way (that) か how のどちらか一方だけ。
💡 ポイント
- where = 場所先行詞、in/at/on which と同義
- when = 時の先行詞
- why = reason が先行詞
- how = the way が先行詞（the way how は×）
練習
- 「彼女が成功した方法を話してくれた」を how を使って英訳しなさい。
- 次を前置詞＋関係代名詞に書き換えなさい：This is the place where the accident happened.
- 誤りを正しなさい：I don't understand the way how she thinks.
