比較の応用 — no more than / no less than
紛らわしい比較表現を整理します。no more than / no less than / not more than / not less than の4つは入試頻出です。
基本ルール
no more than：「たったの〜（しかない）」= only（少ない・残念なニュアンス）
「He has no more than 500 yen.」（たったの500円しか持っていない）
no less than：「〜も（多い）」= as many/much as（驚きのニュアンス）
「She earns no less than 1 million yen a month.」（月に100万円も稼ぐ）
not more than：「せいぜい〜（以下）」= at most
not less than：「少なくとも〜（以上）」= at least
クジラ構文：A is no more B than C is D（AがBでないのはCがDでないのと同じ）
「A whale is no more a fish than a horse is.」
📘 例文
There were no more than 10 people at the concert.（たった10人しかいなかった）
No less than 5,000 people attended the festival.（5,000人もの人が参加した）
He is no more a genius than I am.（彼が天才でないのは私が天才でないのと同じだ）

注意点
① no vs not の違い：no more than = only（完全否定の no）、not more than = at most（程度を表す not）。
② The 比較級, the 比較級：「The more you read, the more you learn.（読めば読むほど多くを学ぶ）」
③ no sooner A than B：「AするやいなやBした」過去完了 + than + 過去。
💡 ポイント
- no more than = only（たったの〜）
- no less than = as many/much as（〜も）
- not more than = at most（せいぜい〜）
- not less than = at least（少なくとも〜）
- クジラ構文：A is no more B than C is D
練習
