Performance comparison: which is faster?
Ryzen 7 1800X (AMD, 2017) and Ryzen 3 5300G (AMD, 2021) are compared here. Compare not only scores, but also whether the motherboard can be reused and which GPU class is balanced with each CPU.
Overall performance: Ryzen 7 1800X is about 3.3% faster
Both use the same AM4 socket, so they can be installed on the same motherboard. For games, performance balance with the GPU (guideline CPU:GPU = 0.9:1) matters more than CPU speed alone.
Relative performance score (higher is faster). Actual speed varies by workload, cooling, and memory configuration.
| Item | Ryzen 7 1800X | Ryzen 3 5300G |
|---|---|---|
| Performance Score | 15,500 | 15,000 |
| Generation | Ryzen 1000 | Ryzen 5000 |
| Socket | AM4 | AM4 |
| Release Year | 2017 | 2021 |
| Type | Desktop | Desktop |
| Compatible GPU Example | Radeon RX 6650 XT | GeForce RTX 4060 |
| If You Want To... | Recommended |
|---|---|
| Prioritize maximum speed for heavy work or a high-end GPU | Ryzen 7 1800X |
| Upgrade while reusing the current motherboard | Either works (same AM4 socket) |
| Prioritize value and adequate performance | Ryzen 3 5300G (the lower model is often sufficient) |
Ryzen 7 1800X is about 3.3% higher by score (Ryzen 7 1800X: 15500 points / Ryzen 3 5300G: 15000 points). For gaming, the GPU tier usually matters more than a few percent of CPU difference. For CPU-heavy work such as video editing and streaming, choose the faster CPU.
Ryzen 7 1800X is Ryzen 1000, while Ryzen 3 5300G is Ryzen 5000.Both use the same AM4 socket, so they can be installed on the same motherboard.
Using our CPU:GPU = 0.9:1 guideline, Radeon RX 6650 XT pairs well with Ryzen 7 1800X and GeForce RTX 4060 pairs well with Ryzen 3 5300G. If either GPU is too strong or too weak, one part holds the other back.
