Performance comparison: which is faster?
Radeon HD 7770 (AMD, 2012) and Radeon HD 6770 (AMD, 2011) are compared here. Compare scores and VRAM, generative AI usability, and CPUs that pair well with each GPU.
Overall performance: HD 7770 is about 13.6% faster
Both have 1GB of VRAM, so they support a similar range of generative AI models. For gaming, prioritize performance score and CPU compatibility; for AI, prioritize VRAM.
Relative performance score (higher is faster). Actual fps varies by resolution, game, and CPU configuration.
| Item | HD 7770 | HD 6770 |
|---|---|---|
| Performance Score | 2,500 | 2,200 |
| VRAM | 1GB | 1GB |
| Manufacturer | AMD | AMD |
| Series | HD 7000 | HD 6000 |
| Release Year | 2012 | 2011 |
| Compatible CPU Example | AMD Athlon II X3 445 | AMD Athlon II X2 250 |
| If You Want To... | Recommended |
|---|---|
| Prioritize high fps and smooth performance in demanding games | HD 7770 |
| Run larger generative AI and LLM models | HD 7770 |
| Prioritize value and adequate performance | HD 6770 (the lower model is often sufficient) |
HD 7770 is about 13.6% higher by score (HD 7770: 2500 points / HD 6770: 2200 points). Actual fps also varies by resolution, game, and CPU, so price is a reasonable deciding factor when the gap is only a few percent.
Both have 1GB of VRAM, so the range of generative AI models they can run is nearly the same.
Using our guideline, AMD Athlon II X3 445 pairs well with HD 7770 and AMD Athlon II X2 250 with HD 6770 (CPU:GPU ≈ 0.9:1). If the CPU is too weak, replacing the GPU may not raise fps, so check the combination before buying.
