Performance comparison: which is faster?
Radeon RX 6600 XT (AMD, 2021) and Radeon RX 5700 (AMD, 2020) are compared here. Compare scores and VRAM, generative AI usability, and CPUs that pair well with each GPU.
Overall performance: RX 6600 XT is about 7.1% faster
Both have 8GB of VRAM, so they support a similar range of generative AI models. For gaming, prioritize performance score and CPU compatibility; for AI, prioritize VRAM.
Relative performance score (higher is faster). Actual fps varies by resolution, game, and CPU configuration.
| Item | RX 6600 XT | RX 5700 |
|---|---|---|
| Performance Score | 15,000 | 14,000 |
| VRAM | 8GB | 8GB |
| Manufacturer | AMD | AMD |
| Series | RX 6000 | RX 5000 |
| Release Year | 2021 | 2020 |
| Compatible CPU Example | Ryzen 7 1800X | Ryzen 7 2700X |
| If You Want To... | Recommended |
|---|---|
| Prioritize high fps and smooth performance in demanding games | RX 6600 XT |
| Run larger generative AI and LLM models | RX 6600 XT |
| Prioritize value and adequate performance | RX 5700 (the lower model is often sufficient) |
RX 6600 XT is about 7.1% higher by score (RX 6600 XT: 15000 points / RX 5700: 14000 points). Actual fps also varies by resolution, game, and CPU, so price is a reasonable deciding factor when the gap is only a few percent.
Both have 8GB of VRAM, so the range of generative AI models they can run is nearly the same.
Using our guideline, Ryzen 7 1800X pairs well with RX 6600 XT and Ryzen 7 2700X with RX 5700 (CPU:GPU ≈ 0.9:1). If the CPU is too weak, replacing the GPU may not raise fps, so check the combination before buying.
